Tobacco Overview

The California Friday Night Live Partnership (CFNLP) is committed to the belief that a youth development framework, which is inclusive, comprehensive, youth-driven, and founded on current research, will improve the lives of young people and the communities in which they live.

The CFNLP has partnered with the California Department of Education's (CDE) Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Office to bring youth and adult allies together and build their capacity for youth development and tobacco prevention, intervention, and cessation services. The primary focus is to provide youth with the knowledge and skills to be tobacco vape-free.

Tobacco/Vaping Advocacy Project

Friday Night Live works in partnership with young people to change norms, develop policies and educate and engage their communities to reduce the prevalence of underage tobacco and vape use.

The Tobacco/Vaping Advocacy project aims to provide young people in Club Live (CL) and Friday Night Live (FNL) chapters the opportunity to engage in advocacy and peer education efforts specific to tobacco and alternative tobacco products (e-cigarettes, vaping, etc.). These advocacy efforts have been shown to be effective in reducing tobacco use, nicotine addiction, and vaping, ultimately providing youth with the knowledge and skills they need to live tobacco and vape-free.

Capacity Building

The CFNLP supports the larger prevention field and FNL county programs through multiple avenues, including the development of toolkits, fact sheets, templates, and other resources that the CFNLP utilizes to build the capacity of FNL chapters to implement local youth-led projects. The CFNLP also provides technical assistance focusing on providing the FNL field with the most relevant training opportunities to support the successful implementation of FNL programs throughout California.
